Shop Review
You are going to want to check out this true article about giant rabbits. Brian is my source for crazily cute animal news and he's really outdone himself with this one.
Yesterday I went to a new fabric store in the metroplex called Fabrique. I consider it my job to check out all the local fabric stores and this one definately adds a new dimension.
I walked in to see four employees sitting around a table in the middle of the store discussing an upcoming trunk show. They all looked up when I entered. You know the feeling that something about your person is awry- toilet paper on the shoe, mismatched buttons, flyaway hair? This is how I felt upon walking into the store. It's not the warmest of places.
Fabrique looks like a cross between an office and a high end boutique- sparse, but not a lot of structural prettiness. It will never be Silk Road in Austin-- on so many levels it falls short.
The fabric was definately gorgeous. They had one of the nicest lace selections I've ever seen. The wool group was also a real find, different weights and colors with a nice selection of 120's. A pale pea green almost did me in.
Few cottons and several silks rounded out the selection with linens coming next month. They offer classes and have the best indie and international pattern selection I've ever seen.
I did buy some navy lining, a couple buttons, a dressmaking tool, and a couple yards of rose colored silk matka. I love its slightly scratchy soft texture and multi-hued subtlety. The prices were a little high, I thought, but the 20% seamstress discount made things a lot more reasonable. There's even fitting rooms in case a dressmaker wanted to bring a client to the store.
Fabrique seems to still be creating an identity, but overall has the potential to be a textile force in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
